i'm coming home...

Yes, I'm coming home and I have mix feelings about it. I am excited and glad because I will meet my family again and see some old friends, but at the same time I feel sad because the main purpose of my coming home is to visit  my sick brother and help out my family in taking care of him in all aspects. It will be a sort of family reunion as well, since my sister already came home a week ago from Singapore. Family reunions are always a sweet moment with hugs...kisses...gift giving...never ending conversations... but this time it will be some tears involved.

For the last few days, between work and daily household chores, I managed to meet some friends, old and new for lunch and dinner. Having friends to talk to  is always good. They are always there to lend a hand.

I remember this quote from Jay Leno.

"Go through your phone book, call people and ask them to drive you to the airport. The ones who will drive you are your true friends. The rest aren't bad people; they're just acquaintances."

I happened to hear a new song on the radio that I immediately liked and it's called Fireflies of Owl City.  It's a nice one, believe me!

lung cancer

Although my family is still trying to accept the fact that my brother has a Stage 4 lung cancer and we are trying our best to keep him alive, I also got a good news for myself...I was informed, that since November 1, I am officially a regular employee... it means that I can have a 6-week off every year. Now I don't have to worry about whether or not my employment contract will be renewed or not. It's a bit of a relief on my part.

Since knowing my brother's condition, I've been reading and searching the net about lung cancer and these are the facts that I've read so far:

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. It is a leading cause of cancer death in men and women.

Cigarette smoking causes most lung cancers. The more cigarettes you smoke per day and the earlier you started smoking, the greater your risk of lung cancer.

High levels of pollution, radiation and asbestos exposure may also increase risk.

Common symptoms of lung cancer include
  • A cough that doesn't go away and gets worse over time
  • Constant chest pain
  • Coughing up blood
  • Shortness of breath, wheezing, or hoarseness
  • Repeated problems with pneumonia or bronchitis
  • Swelling of the neck and face
  • Loss of appetite or weight loss
  • Fatigue
There are many types of lung cancer. Each type of lung cancer grows and spreads in different ways and is treated differently. Treatment also depends on the stage, or how advanced it is. Treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Now I am more aware of what lung cancer i. I knew nothing about it before until now that a member of the family is actually sick. It's disheartening but we have to face the fact. We'll do our best to keep him alive but it's God's will who shall prevail later.

Have a nice weekend!

More on lung cancer here!
